Update #11

Update on Tobias
This past week has been one of the scariest weeks by far. Last Thursday I went to go change Tobias’s diaper and he wasn’t moving his legs, which is very unlike him. Normally when I go to change his diaper he pulls his feet as close to his bottom as possible. I asked one of the nurses what that meant. She looks at me and said do you want an honest answer. I said yes. She said I think he’s getting really tired of fighting and his body can’t take it anymore. She made a way for me to hold my baby for the first time in over two months. He stayed in his bed the whole time, we slide him to the edge, and I wrapped my arms around him. It took a while and he slowly started to move his arms and legs. He’s been on the paralyzing medication before and when he was not moving it felt just like that. By Friday we were so scared that he wasn’t going to make it too much longer before his body gave out, so the nicu let us have our families back with us to help support us. Friday afternoon the doctor came in to tell us that they got test results back from the culture they did on his breathing tube. The test came back where he had way more bacteria on it than there should have been. They were going to put him on antibiotics for 10 days and treat him for pneumonia. We were so relieved that there was a reason as to why this might have been happening. The antibiotics have thankfully been helping a lot. He has not had anymore episodes with him turning dark blue and not moving. He also has been slowly improving overall. He’s way more active and alert. Tobias still has a very long road ahead of him but I’m very thankful that he’s still here fighting.
